Mike

Mike Ferrell

For over 10 years, Mike Ferrell has added his incendiary keyboard (and now vocals) to the Sistarhood. His fluid piano, organ and synthesizer playing have been a foundation of the group's sound. A brilliant stylist, he ranges effortlessly from Rachmaninoff to Dr. John and from Little Richard to Ramsey Lewis. Mike's powerful singing while seated at the keyboard has helped propel the group to new heights. He sings fiery versions of "What I Say," "Shake Rattle and Roll" and "Brown Eyed Girl," and his ability to shift from the mellowest standard to the hardest rock has earned him a permanent place in the Poyntlyss Pantheon. Just think...for eight years or so everybody in the band thought that Mike was a total mute. Now they can't seem to shut him up!

Hailing from Fresno, CA, Mike's earliest childhood memory involves somebody (probably his parents) pushing his high chair up to a piano and shouting "play that boogie!"...and he hasn't stopped since. Mike's earlier musical career spanned the mid 1960s through the 1970s, with Mike playing piano and organ (rock, jazz and Latin) in night clubs around Fresno and San Jose. He came out of musical retirement 20 years ago, and has thoroughly enjoyed working with a variety of local bands and artists. In addition to his PSB duties, Mike has served as co-leader of the Steve Morris/Mike Ferrell Band for 15 years.

His favorite type of music: any potent blend of jazz, funk and Latin...or anything by Herbie Hancock. Mike is really looking forward to playing keyboard in the Poyntlyss Sistars Rockin' Show Band for years to come.
